Obituary

Raymond W. Zickmund, Sr., 91, of rural Rensselaer, Indiana passed away at his home early Tuesday morning, July 7, 2020. He was born in Rensselaer on May 5, 1929, the son of James Zickmund and Ruby Blanche (Elijah) Zickmund.

On May 7, 1949, in Rensselaer, he married Leane M. Horwath. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2014.

Ray was a farmer. He also worked in the body shop at Townsend Pontiac in Merrillville, L & P Body Shop in Rensselaer, and he owned and operated Ray’s Body Shop which he started in 1974.

Ray loved to farm and take care of his cattle. He knew the value of a good day’s work, and he instilled that in his children. One of his favorite things to do was ride his motorcycle. He rode it up until last year, and even had it out once earlier this year.

He is survived by one son, Ray (Linda) Zickmund, Jr.; one daughter, Cindy (Randy) Cook; special friend Beverly Wireman; and one sister, Sharon (Phil) Litke. Eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leane Zickmund; daughter Katherine DuBois; son-in-law Zale DuBois; granddaughter Candace Scott; parents James and Blanche Zickmund; and brother Richard Zickmund.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 4-8 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Bill DeVries officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Please practice social distancing while at the funeral home and the cemetery.
