Obituary for Rose Brunton

Rose Marie “Butch” Brunton, age 70 of Morocco, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Jasper County Hospital Alternacare, losing her 7 year battle with cancer.

Butch as she was affectionately known, was born in Rensselaer on August 19, 1942, daughter of the late Irvin and Julia (Hoover) Mashino. She was a lifetime Newton County resident graduating from Morocco High School in 1960.

On September 10, 1961, she married her loving husband of 51 years, Richard L. Brunton. He survives. Following the birth of her three children Butch followed her dream of becoming an educator. She graduated from St. Joseph's College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and attained a double Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Counseling. Her lifetime was spent teaching in the Elementary grades where she spent the last 25 years of her career in the North Newton School System retiring at age 54.

Butch was gifted with many talents among which were being a wonderful loving, wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. She could do just about anything. She especially loved sewing, furniture making, upholstering, all crafts and landscaping, to name just a few.

Surviving along with her husband are 3 children, Kevin (Kathe) Brunton of Edwardsburg, MI, Steve (Angela) Brunton of Fowler, IN, Susan (Rein) Bontreger of Rensselaer, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Linda Gibson of Boswell, IN, Donna (William G.) Smart of Morocco and one brother Garry Mashino of Muncie, IN.

Preceding her in death were her parents and 2 sisters, Mary Jane Mashino and Edwina (Jack) Rush.

Friends may call at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 10 until 12 noon (CST) at which time a Celebration of Life Service will be held with Rein Bontreger and Rev. Thomas Vance officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
