Obituary for Roy Swartz

Roy Clyde Swartz, age 92 of Morocco, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Franciscan St. Margaret Hospital in Dyer. He was born in Donovan, IL on January 15, 1919, son of the late Marion Earl and Jessie May (Whaley) Swartz. Roy attended school in Donovan and Morocco. He was a life long area resident.

On October 24, 1945 in Joliet, IL, Roy married Doris “Evelyn” (Hayslip) Swartz and she survives. He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Morocco. Roy was self-employed and drove a bulk milk truck route for 51 years, retiring in 1992. He loved spending time with his family, collecting coins, doing crossword puzzles, reading and enjoying all of God’s creations.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Doris; three daughters, Janice Bishop of Crown Point, Cheryl Honsa (husband: E.J.), of Dyer, Michelle “Shelley” Miller (husband: Stephen) of Delphi; and four sisters, Bernice Cox (husband: Howard “Howdy” of Morocco, Agnes L’Hernault of New Jersey, Pearl Ulrich of Illinois and Carolyn Dacunto of Florida. Six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Bennett; three brothers, Earl Swartz, Jr., Raymond Swartz, and infant brother Glenn; grandson Jason Roy Miller; infant grandson Adam Miller; and infant great-granddaughter Hope Evelyn Lynch.

Friends may call Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 3:00 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco, Pastor Jeff Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
