Obituary for Vane Harrison

Vane “Speed” Harrison, age 94 of Morocco, passed away Tuesday evening, June 19, 2012 at the Rensselaer Care Center. He was a lifelong Morocco area resident. He was born in Morocco on August 28, 1917, son of the late Charles E. and Nellie M. (Pickering) Harrison. He was a graduate of Morocco High School.

Speed served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1942-1945. He was a PBY Pilot stationed in the Aleutian Islands in the northern Pacific and flew four missions over Japan. After the war Speed had a career as a locomotive engineer for Inland Steel, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the United Church of Morocco. He was also an active member of the Morocco American Legion Post 146, the Masonic Lodge, 40 & 8, and the Navy Club.

Speed is survived by one daughter, Karen McClatchey (husband: Michael) of Morocco; and four granddaughters: Shannon Tarrh (husband: Jay) of Terre Haute, Cory McCann (husband: Richard, Jr.) of Morocco, Meghan McClatchey of Indianapolis and Colleen Rendant (husband: Josh) of Rensselaer. Six great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by: his parents, two brothers: Herschel and Stanley Harrison, first wife Phyllis (Triplett) Harrison, second wife Anna (Maniak) Harrison, and third wife Wilma (Kemp) Harrison.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, June 22, 2012 from 4 - 8 p.m. with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas D. Vance officiating. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Donations in Speed’s memory are suggested to Morocco American Legion Post 146.
