Obituary for Vernon Harrington

Vernon Lloyd Harrington, 86, of Rensselaer, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Vernon was born in Gary on July 13, 1926, son of the late Vernon Lloyd Harrington and Anna Marie (Weging) Harrington. He graduated from Fair Oaks High School with the Class of 1944 and went on to serve his Country as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy. On July 3, 1946, Vernon married his wife of 66 years, Virginia Mae Bozell, and she survives.

Vernon was a self-employed farmer for 65 years. He was a member of the Mt. Ayr Methodist Church, the Masons, and the VFW. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and dice.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife Virginia Mae Harrington of Rensselaer; two children, Pamella Ellen (James) VanWienen of Bowlus, MN and Vernon Michael Harrington of Rensselaer; two grandchildren, Scott (Karla) VanWienen of Bowlus, MN and Melissa Lynn (Josh) Watts of Monticello; and a brother, Doyle Harrington of Pasadena, TX. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dylan, Kayne and Kavyn. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one granddaughter.

Friends may call on Saturday, Nov. 3rd and Sunday, Nov. 4th, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. (Central Time) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Morros officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Ayr Methodist Church.
