Obituary for Walter Geleott

Walter R. Geleott, age 91 of Rensselaer passed away November 5, 2009 at Regency Place in Lafayette. He was born in Gary, IN on January 25, 1918, son of the late John and Maggie (Buckner) Geleott. He was educated in the Gary Public Schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On July 15, 1939 in Chicago, IL he married the love of his life, Rose Papiernik. She survives. He was a Crane Operator at U.S. Steel in Gary retiring in1983. He lived in South Holland, IL until moving to Rensselaer in 1994. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Northwest Indiana Retirees Club, Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. Along with his wife, Rose, a son and daughter survive, Ron Geleott (wife: Judy) of Rensselaer and Janet Binkowski (Mrs. Ron) of South Holland, IL. Also, 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren survive. Preceding him in death were his parents 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The family suggests Memorials to St. Augustine Catholic School or to Jasper County Hospice. Friends may call at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer on Sunday, November 8th from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 9th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Military Graveside Services will follow at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer.
