Colonel William A. "'Bill' " Woodworth
William A. "Bill" Colonel Woodworth, 85, of Rensselaer, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Monday, May 31 at the Rensselaer Care Center.
He was born in Jasper County on Nov. 17, 1924, the son of William M. Woodworth and Novak Woodworth, both preceded him in death.
He was a lifetime resident of the Rensselaer.
He graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1942.
He married Crestal (Fleming) Woodward on Jan. 5, 1946.
He was with 10th Mountain in the U.S. Army and was awarded the purple heart and two bronze stars during his time in the service.
He worked in the insurance business over 30 years. He was an auctioneer and state representative. He retired in 1986.
He was a stain glass artist and made all windows at the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three children; Patricia Ann Riley, Indianapolis; William C. (Pamela) Woodworth of Rensselaer; and Polly Ann (James) Simmons of Monticello; as well as six grandchildren.
Per the family, cremation was chosen. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Rensselaer.
