He served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.

On January 20, 1968, in Rensselaer, he married Peg Anderson. “Blue”, as his co-workers called him, worked for many years at United Telephone Company. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Peg Bilyeu of Rensselaer; three children: Suzanne (Rod) Klingler, of Rensselaer, Angela Sinks of West Lafayette, and Mark (Katie) Bilyeu of Rensselaer; one brother, Paul (Rosie) Bilyeu of Rensselaer; his father-in-law, Dale Anderson of Monticello; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Mildred Bilyeu; a great-grandson, Levi Hitchings; and his mother-in-law, Ida Jean Anderson.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Crossview Worship Center, 305 E. Wood Rd. in Rensselaer, Indiana. The family is planning a Celebration of Life service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bilyeu officiating.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Dan. He was one of the Good ones, soldier, husband, father and most of all A Good Man. I only saw Dan twice since we walked the outpost of Vietnam with our dogs. Once at his place as my wife and I stopped as we where traveling in our RV and the last was at a small reunion of Vietnam Dog Handlers in Louisville. Our time in Nam bonded us forever and even though we didn't meet much we will always be connected. He will not be Forgotten. RIP my friend.

May God's blessing be with you at this most difficult time. Dan was my best friend in Vietnam. We were inseparable and I would say our friendship got us through the worst of times. I will miss him. Love you Dan.
